It used to be “it’s no business like show business”, but today the saying might as well be read as “there’s no business like online gambling”, purely because online gambling has become one of the most profitable businesses - both for website owners and, most importantly, for players. As an online gambler, you have a whole world of opportunities at your disposal, and you can benefit from a lot of different bonuses and promotions, essentially making your life a whole lot easier. Out of all the online gambling websites, the one that is guaranteed to give you the very best deals and promotions is by a long shot the online poker business. Online poker rooms strive to give you the very best online gambling experience, practically throwing the very best deals at you, so much so that you have to try hard not to take advantage of them. But, as good as the deals from online poker rooms are, the third party websites that are in activity today sometimes have even greater offers, exceeding the other ones in every way possible. That’s why, before you even sign up for an online poker room account, you should carefully take every factor into consideration, and see which deals work best for you.

And speaking of deals, let’s have a closer look at the single greatest new idea that appeared in the online poker industry in 2010: Buy-in Bank. The poker sponsorship program Buy-in Bank works on a simple and innovative principle: you first have to sign up for an account with them, and then link that account with one from an online poker room (there are many different online poker rooms to choose from, and the list keeps on getting larger). After that, it’s actually very simple: you just play on that online poker website, as you normally would, and you’ll keep gaining points - in your poker account, and in your Buy-in Bank account. Those are called Grinder Points, and here’s the biggest novelty that Buy-in Bank brings: you can use these Grinder Points to enter live tournaments all over the world. There are a lot of different poker tournaments for you to choose from, and they are spread throughout the world. From the large World Poker Tour, to the European Poker Tour, the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour, or tournaments in Asia (namely the Asian Poker Tour), you have a lot of tournaments to choose from, and a lot more events that will take you through dozens of cities around the world.

Another great thing about Buy-in Bank is the upcoming Online Poker League, which is a twenty week league, and it will take off in early December. You have plenty of time to register, and, trust me; the prizes are well worth it. You can win a poker sponsorship, which will end all your financial worries regarding online and live poker, and also a lot of other prizes consisting in Grinder Points and more.

Blackjack vs. Poker

Just like Online Bingo, Poker is an extremely popular game, but it is not the only game that can be fun to play and gamble on. Blackjack is another game that offers a lot of intrigue and strategy. Comparing the two games, however, is not as simple as comparing apples to apples. It is more like comparing apples to bananas: they’re both fruit, but they are completely different otherwise.

blackjack

Texas Holdem Poker is a game that relies heavily on being able to play intelligently against other players, while blackjack relies on your ability to bet intelligently against the odds of doing better than the dealer. In this way, blackjack is much more of a numbers game, while poker is much more of a strategic game.

Also, blackjack is not nearly as much of a social game. It is more of a game that is fun and interesting to play at a casino, but not nearly as much fun to play with your buddies. Because of this inherent lack of social interaction with other players, blackjack is likely to remain much less popular than poker for the simple fact that you can’t really play blackjack with your friends.

The ability for group of people to get together and play texas holdem poker is one of the reasons that it’s so undeniably popular. People love to get together with friends or family to play cards and poker is a game that a lot of people seem to enjoy because it is simple to learn, but complex to master. Blackjack on the other hand is simple to learn, but mastery comes more in understanding the probability of numbers than being able to read your opponent.

The complex social interactions that can happen during a poker game make it interesting and fun. In fact, it makes it so interesting and fun that people are willing to watch people play poker on television. It’s surprising that watching six people sit around a table with sunglasses on, hiding their cards, would be interesting enough to dedicate a whole hour or more of television to, but it’s all over cable television now.

If you ever go to a casino you can win a lot at both blackjack and poker, but if you’re hanging out with friends poker is a lot more fun and enjoyable in a group setting.

Friendly Poker Wagers Among Friends

Many people enjoy a friendly poker game every week or so with their buddies as a way to relax and have fun. However, if you’re not careful, these games can turn from friendly to unfriendly in just one hand. If you want to keep your friends as your friends, you might want to do a few things before you plan that next poker game.

First, have sensible wagers in place. It is usually good idea to have a set limit of how much money can be wagered on a given night. For example, you might want to have a $5 or $10 buy-in with no re-buys, so that worst-case scenario, each person is only out a small amount of money if they lose. This will prevent things from getting too heated, because the amount of money being wagered is so small.

Second, use poker chips instead of real money is to keep track of betting. Casinos learned a long time ago that poker chips are a great way to keep people from understanding how much money they’ve truly won or lost. While they do this to make it seem like you haven’t lost much money, in a friendly game you can do this to make it look like you won a lot when it might only be five dollars.

Last, don’t let any personal arguments get too out of hand. Of course friends might give each other a hard time, but they shouldn’t be mean or nasty in a friendly game. If things do get out of hand, don’t let that influence the betting or have someone to go home losing a lot of money and having hurt feelings.

In short, keep your friendly poker games friendly and you should be fine. After all, poker is supposed to be fun. Losing a hand in poker should never mean losing your friends. Also, by that same token, you should never want to win so badly that it damages a friendship.

How Free Play Poker Changes Your Strategy

Posted by Pro Poker Player | Posted in Poker Online, Poker Strategy | Posted on 23-09-2008

Playing poker without having real money bets is a great way to learn the game. It lets you learn which hands are best and which are worst. It can teach you when you should bet and when you should fold. It can even teach you some of the more advanced bluffing strategies.

The best thing you can learn from free play poker is that you can get into situations that are complex without having to pay a lot of money to get there. Thus, you can get some high-level experience without having to lose money in the process.

However, there is a major flaw in free play poker. Without risking real money people, bet differently and play differently. It’s like the difference between playing poker with your buddies and playing poker at a World Series of Poker tournament. It’s a completely different game, for obvious reasons.

In a free play game, you can take risks that you would never take if you are using real money. For example, if you are down on chips and a free play game, you might keep betting when you shouldn’t. It doesn’t matter if you lose, you get more chips no matter what. In a real money game, when you run out of money you’re done.

That doesn’t seem like it would be a big deal, but the difference in how you’ll make decisions because of that is huge. The difference is also significant in how your opponents will play. Often times they will go all in on a bluff, because there is no real penalty of loss. That penalty is a huge factor.

Knowing this, you will likely change your strategy significantly when you play free. If you know that your opponents are going to bluff when they shouldn’t, you can often make money just on the fact that they’re willing to make dumb decisions and you might not be. Many people play conservative in a real money game, but not many people play conservative when they’re not risking any real loss.

Use this idea to your advantage the next time you’re practicing online in a free game. Being contrary to the rest can likely give you a competitive advantage that most people would never think about.
